It has been one week since the tragic attack on the Uvalde, TX elementary school that left 19 children and adults dead. Now, the recent awareness has spiked the public interest on the subject of school shootings, so much so that a Lee County 10-year-old was arrested for making a school shooting threat.
The fifth-grade student, who attends Patriot Elementary School in Cape Coral, Florida, allegedly sent the threatening text. The School Threat Enforcement Team was immediately notified and quickly reacted.
Police interviewed and arrested the child after probable cause for his arrest was found.
"This student’s behavior is sickening, especially after the recent tragedy in Uvalde, Texas," Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said. "Making sure our children are safe is paramount. We will have law and order in our schools! My team didn’t hesitate one second…NOT ONE SECOND, to investigate this threat."
Sheriff Marceno responded to criticism that the child was only 10 years old, and therefore not fully aware of the potential school shooting threat he was making.
Marceno added, "Making sure our children are safe is paramount. We will have law and order in our schools! My team didn't hesitate one second…NOT ONE SECOND, to investigate this threat," added the sheriff, referring to the fact that police did not respond in Uvalde for almost a whole hour. "Real consequences. Lee County will have law and order. Right now is not the time to act like a little delinquent. It's not funny. This child made a fake threat, and now he's experiencing real consequences."
Lee County's Sheriff Marceno has since blasted the reaction time of first responders in Uvalde, Texas last week which could have cost lives.
