Fried Continues to Attack Crist on his Past and Present Gun Stance

Despite changing his stance on a lot of key issues, Charlie Crist leads the Democratic primary for Governor.

The former Republican governor and current gubernatorial candidate, Rep. Charlie Crist (D-FL) has a reminder to Floridians about Gov. Ron DeSantis and his pro-gun policies. Rep. Crist has been pro-gun in the past before becoming a Democrat in the early 2010s and ended up unsuccessfully challenging former Governor and now Sen. Rick Scott in 2014.

Rep. Crist, who in the  past received +A rating from the NRA and received thousands of dollars in NRA campaign financing, is "sticking to his guns" and is pledging "to ban the sale of assault weapons in Florida." Crist called for banning of "assault weapons" and high capacity magazines after the Sandy Hook school shooting in 2012.

“(Not so) gentle reminder: Ron DeSantis vowed to pass a deadly permitless open carry law that is identical to the one in Texas," tweeted Crist.

However, Democratic gubernatorial candidate and current Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried (D-FL) has relentlessly pointed out Crist’s flip-flopping on possibly the three biggest issues Americans vote on today: taxes, guns, and abortion.

Commissioner  Fried in September of 2021 shared a video of a speech made by Crist when was running as a Republican against now Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL). In the video, Crist states,"“I am pro-life, I am pro-gun, and I am pro-family, and I am anti-tax and I always have been."

Fried is now campaigning on the fact that unlike Crist, she has never received and "A rating" or cash from the NRA.

Crist in the past has told The Floridian that he has “always been laisse-faire about abortion.”

Now, it must be stated that people are allowed to change their minds. If they weren’t, there would never be a need for debate at all. Elections could be held without a single campaign rally. However, it is highly unlikely that people would go out of their way to support a public servant that has flip-flopped on vital issues. Fried knows this, and that is why she is hitting these issues so hard.

But she is still behind in the polls. Sadly, for her, Fried trails by 19.3 points to Crist in the RealClearPolitics average. She has less than 3 months to close that gap before the Democratic primary election. If Fried somehow is able to climb the mountain that is defeating Charlie Crist, she then has to face an even higher mountain to climb: defeating DeSantis in November.
