In part of an exclusive interview with The Floridian, Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) went on record to expand upon his views on President Joe Biden (D), taxes, and accusations in which is he being tagged with raising taxes on minorities and lower-income Americans. Sen. Scott’s response was both clear and directed.
House Democrats on the Joint Economic Committee contend that Scott's "Rescue America Plan" will raise taxes not cut them, and will cost American jobs.
"A plan from Senator Rick Scott, the chair of the Senate Republicans’ campaign committee, proposes a number of policies that would raise taxes and put vital programs in peril. The Scott plan proposes instituting a federal minimum income tax, defunding federal support for state and local programs and sunsetting all federal legislation.
The Scott plan would raise taxes on millions of families, cost jobs and stifle long-term economic growth. As the United States continues to recover from the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic, imposing a painful austerity budget on working families and seniors would take the economy in the wrong direction.-JEC
“First off, it’s laughable, right? I came in as governor of Florida back in January 2011. And in those eight years as governor, I cut taxes and fees one hundred times. I fought all tax increases.” He then discusses the tax policy of the Biden administration in saying, “Joe Biden has been for every tax increase you can imagine. So, here’s what I believe, there’s two choices: You have the Biden approach, he’s going to make people more dependent on government every day. My approach and how you get people to have skin in the game, you get them a job. It’s why as Governor, we added 1.7 million jobs.”
When asked again about whether he would raise taxes on anybody, the former governor responded, “I will never raise taxes on people…Biden believes he should either borrow more money, which he’s doing constantly or raise taxes on the rich to give more things away to make people more dependent.”
