Florida Rep. Charlie Crist (D) celebrated the first year of his gubernatorial campaign by giving a speech, calling Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) the “worst Governor in modern Florida history.”

Rep. Crist, who’s amassed numerous endorsements in recent weeks, outlined numerous reasons as to why Governor DeSantis could be considered the “worst.”

DeSantis has previously been called an “authoritarian bully,” and the claim persists as Crist argues that DeSantis’ faults render him inefficient for the post.

Accusing DeSantis of erasing Black congressional districts, increasing abortion restrictions, attacking Disney, and supporting the Don’t Say Gay bill, are but a few actions Crist hopes will sway voters to cast a ballot for a Democrat governor in November.

“Ron DeSantis is nothing but a power-hungry bully, trying to bluster his way to the White House without doing a single damn thing for Florida,” argued Crist, adding that “no previous Governor has posed such a direct threat to our prosperity and our democracy.”

Crist added that “the Republican-controlled legislature is so cowed by this governor that when he says jump, they merely ask ‘how high.’”

He commented that “the judicial branch after three years spent stacking the bench with right-wing ideologues and another on the way this summer,” noting that “it’s unclear if anyone will cross Governor DeSantis even if his laws are unconstitutional.”

The gubernatorial hopeful continued by questioning whether DeSantis has found inspiration from Russian President Vladimir Putin “or maybe it’s Fidel Castro, or Nicaragua’s Daniel Ortega, or Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro, or Hungary’s Viktor Organ, all dictators who would nod in approval with how he is running our state.”

Instead, Crist has vowed to be a Governor that will “restore our opportunity to our state to make Florida a place where the American Dream shines as bright as the sun in the Sunshine State.”
