After Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) signed the Parental Rights in Education bill into law, much of the resistance stopped. However, State Senator Annette Taddeo (D-40) has vowed to continue to fight against the bill that has now become law.
Senator Taddeo has gained attention over this recent session for her fierce opposition to Republican-led bills that are all poised to become law. The Senator even compared the, "Stop Woke Act," to the Holocaust on the Florida Senate floor.
Back in March when the Parental Rights in Education bill made it to the Senate floor, Taddeo made sure she got her say in on the matter.
"Let's learn from the experiences of asking adolescence to hide who they really are. That is not what this bill does at all. But we will not stop until this state moves forward and actually values everyone in it. Everyone, no matter their sexual orientation," stated Taddeo.
During the closing days of the 2022 legislative session, Taddeo took to the Senate floor, promising to continue her opposition towards the law. In a Tweet by the Senator she stated, "[Governor Ron DeSantis] has signed the bigoted [Don't Say Gay] bill into Florida law. We will continue to fight back this unconstitutional discriminatory legislation."
Taddeo is not the only Democrat still willing to fight against the bill that is now law. President Joe Biden (D) stood behind LGBTQ youth and called the bill, "hateful." Expect this piece of legislation to resurface later this year as Democrats will attempt to oust Republicans at an unprecedented level this election cycle.
