DeSantis Rails Against Biden's Meeting With Communist Cuba

Share

Gov. Ron DeSantis has joined the choir of dissent against the Biden administration’s decision to hold high-level talks with the Communist Cuban government over the increase of illegal Cuban immigrants arriving at the U.S. southern border.

Gov. DeSantis points to the Cuban regime’s recent human rights violations against protesters during last year’s freedom demonstration on the island.

“By meeting with members of the Cuban regime responsible for killing and jailing protestors instead of tangibly aiding the people of Cuba, the Biden Administration is, yet again, turning a blind eye to Cuba's fight for freedom. This is disappointing, if not surprising,” stated Gov. DeSantis.

DeSantis, whose Spanish appears to bit more polished every time he injects the language into his press conferences, took centerstage with Senator Marco Rubio when Cuban-American protestors took to the streets last year to condemn the Cuban government during the “Freedom protests” in 2021.

“After 62 years, something is different on that island right now. We have an opportunity to really take a new chapter in history,” said Gov. DeSantis when asked about the perceived inactions of President Joe Biden as it relates to the protests,” adding that “Cuba would be a phenomenal ally of our country if it was free.”

DeSantis said that Biden needed to “step up” and allow willing American businesses to stream in internet access to Cuba after the regime shut it down.

“He’s basically just sitting there doing nothing, he’s leaving these folks out to dry,” added DeSantis during an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity. before saying that if Biden did not seize the moment, his inactions would be a “huge blow to the cause of freedom.”

DeSantis, Sen. Rubio, and the requests and counsel of others, were ignored by the Biden administration.

During his time in the U.S. Congress, DeSantis, who sat on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, supported Cuba being designated as a state sponsor of terrorism by the State Department.

Many of the protestors in Cuba have been sentenced to stiff jail sentences, some receiving as many as 30 years in prison for “committing and provoking serious disturbances and acts of vandalism.”

Interestingly enough, the Biden administration is concerned more with the influx of Cuban immigrants than the tens of thousands of illegal immigrants streaming in from Mexico and Central America.
