Crist: DeSantis 'Ignoring' Rising Property Insurance

Share

Florida Rep. Charlie Crist (D) has amassed support in recent weeks, gaining a boost from a number of officials and union workers. This week, the former Governor of Florida had choice words for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R), criticizing him for “ignoring” property insurance concerns.

Rep. Crist, who’s been a vocal critic of DeSantis, discussed rising premiums and insurer financial troubles in Florida.

Taking to Twitter to comment on the subject, Crist expressed that “prices are rising and Floridians are hurting, but Gov. DeSantis is ignoring the problem – he’d rather focus on culture wars and his 2024 political ambitions.”

The Florida Democrat added that when he was Governor of Florida, he “lowered property insurance premiums.” “And when I’m elected, I’ll do it again,” Crist added.

Crist formerly served as Governor as a Republican before changing parties.

The gubernatorial hopeful accused DeSantis of having “turned a deaf ear to the insurance crisis facing our state,” but he has not addressed what his policy would be to respond to the concerns.

However, he maintains that voting DeSantis out of office would be beneficial for Florida because of the “division” DeSantis has created. This stems from the controversial “Don’t Say Gay” bill the Governor signed into law, which has incited furor from Democrats, Disney and other activists that have even sued the state over the legislation.

“We are better than the division DeSantis has created,” shared Crist on social media, adding that “it’s time to restore decency and goodness back to Florida – and that’s exactly what we’re going to do this November.”

Before Crist can challenge DeSantis in the general election, Crist must first overcome the campaigns of state Senator Annette Taddeo (D) and Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried (D) who are vying for the Democratic nomination.

DeSantis has largely disregarded the campaigns as not being a threat, and recent polls indicate that the incumbent has a double-digit lead over the Democrats.
