Rubio Team Ad Slams Demings for 'Court Packing' Support

As Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, President Joe Biden’s (D) Supreme Court nominee, undergoes the Senate confirmation process, the Rubio campaign has released an advertisement criticizing Florida Rep. Val Demings (D) for supporting the "court-packing" initiative supported by Progressives around the country.

In the advertisement, the Rubio team accuses Demings of supporting “court-packing,” which is a criticism that has also been extended to the president.

“I think it is incumbent upon us to use every tool within our authority to write a wrong,” said the Florida Democrat during an interview segment that’s used in the advertisement. When the interview asks Demings if that “tool” includes “the packing of the court,” Demings clarifies that “there have been discussions” about that because “the nation has changed.”

Republicans have warned about “packing the courts,” and the advertisement argues that Democrats like Rep. Demings support the cause because it would add “liberal activist judges” to the Supreme Court.

Calling it “an option” to pack the courts, the Rubio campaign is now cautioning voters to oppose this idea by voting against the Florida Democrat in November.

In a statement, Elizabeth Gregory, the communications director for Marco Rubio for Senate, expressed that Rep. “Demings will do anything to get her radical agenda across the finish line, including packing the Supreme Court with liberal activist judges.” “It is crystal clear that Demings’ allegiance is to Washington Democrats, not Floridians,” Gregory added.

Upon the announcement of Justice Stephen Breyer's retirement, President Biden quickly notified that he would be nominating a replacement, which resulted in the nomination of Judge Brown Jackson. Though her nomination has received support from Republican lawmakers, the ongoing Senate hearing has also seen Republican lawmakers on the offense in their questioning.

During the 2020 presidential election, the issue of "packing the courts" received extensive media coverage. Republicans maintained vehement opposition to the idea, questioning President Biden over his intention to support the idea.
