Sen. Marco Rubio (FL-R) appeared on The Faulkner Focus Thursday morning to discuss the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine. When asked about Democrats in Congress wavering upon their opinions or strategies concerning the Ukrainian crisis, Marco Rubio stated:
“Well, I think throughout this crisis you've seen Congress is actually, in a bipartisan way, Congress has been dragging the president to lead on it. They didn't want to do the oil embargo. They didn't want to do the oil cut off. It's Congress that pushed him to do that. It's Congress's compulsion to provide more weaponry. And I think it's important to understand that we're gonna have to continue to do that. I think the White House has been a little bit a step behind on each of these.”
Similar to Sen. Rick Scott (FL-R) stating in a press release yesterday, “President Biden has been slow to act and Congress has led the way in supporting Ukraine in its fight for democracy.” it appears with the war in Eastern Europe raging on that Republicans are arguing that they themselves and Congress have been the ones to step up and deal with the crisis themselves.
Rubio then discussed President Joe Biden (D) flip-flopping on whether Putin in a war criminal, declaring that "war crimes have been committed" in the 3-week war.
“I think at some point, you have to be clear with people and not play games about how you feel about the situation. War crimes have been committed. The deliberate targeting of civilians in a war…is a war crime. And the person ordering those strikes, is a war criminal. And that’s Vladimir Putin," said Rubio.
