Rubio Campaign Presses Demings on her Support for Iran Nuclear Deal

Share

Florida Senator Marco Rubio’s (R) reelection campaign is pressing Florida Rep. Val Demings (D) to comment on reports that the Biden Administration is renegotiating an Iran Nuclear Deal. After accusing the Florida Democrat of being “wishy washy” on foreign policy concerns, the team is now affirming that her silence is indicative of renewed support.

The team’s comments come as the Biden Administration faces bipartisan pressure after the administration rekindled the intent of lifting economic sanctions against Venezuela to engage the country as an oil alternative. Moreover, reports of a new Iran Nuclear Deal have drawn ire from Republican lawmakers.

In a press release, Rubio’s team argued that Demings “has been a vocal supporter of the deal and opposed the Trump administration’s decision to withdraw from it.”

As proof of her support, the team cited a 2017 tweet wherein the Senatorial challenger shared her support for the deal, writing that “Iran poses threats to security around the world – undermining the Iran Deal makes addressing those threats more difficult.”

In a statement, Elizabeth Gregory, the communications director for Marco Rubio for Senate, expressed that “Demings’ silence on Biden’s potential Iran deal and her unwillingness to call for unleashing American oil production proves Demings will always pick appeasing her far-left base over doing what’s right.”

Gregory added that “Demings should worry less about getting on the wrong side of Washington Democrats and more about getting into bed with oppressive anti-American regimes.”

The Biden administration has not confirmed if the United States will acquire an oil alternative as gas prices continue to rise. Calls for the country to pursue energy independence have also been contended.

In turn, the Rubio campaign affirms that "It’s become increasingly clear that Joe Biden would rather rely on murderous regimes than American companies for oil, and Demings has been reluctant to join fellow Democrats in condemning his actions."
