Over the weekend, Florida Senator Rick Scott (R) directed criticism at President Joe Biden (D), arguing that the President has been counterproductive regarding energy independence in the United States. Amidst the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, the former Governor of Florida has expressed his support for Ukraine while sharing his disappointment that Biden has “pushed America to a dangerous dependence on Russia & other foreign energy.”
As lawmakers expressed their support for the Ukraine government as Russia moved to invade the country, Senator Scott praised “the bravery and patriotism on display in Ukraine,” also commenting on “the leadership of President Zelensky” and calling it “truly remarkable.”
Calling the Russia government “evil and tyranny,” Senator Scott directed blame to President Biden, arguing that “Biden must embrace U.S. energy & boost our exportation of LNG to Europe & beyond,” adding that the President’s “weakness as a Green New Deal devotee has set back the U.S. & forced our partners & allies into dangerous deals with evil regimes.”
The Florida lawmaker further provided comments on Twitter, writing that “Biden hasn’t taken a single step to restore U.S. energy production.”
Scott added that Biden’s “radical Green New Deal policies, like killing Keystone XL, have pushed America to a dangerous dependence on Russian & other foreign energy” before proclaiming that the United States should focus on “U.S. energy first again.”
As Russia continues to attack Ukraine, crude oil barrels are now estimated to be $100 a barrel.
Political pundits argue that the growing conflict could lead to Russia restarting oil operations in Venezuela that could lead to the potential takeover of Total and Equinor operations that are now under control of Venezuela’s dictator, Maduro.
This has become a growing concern for officials, and lawmakers like Senator Scott have amplified their calls for the United States to be an energy independent country.
