Levine Cava Endorses Judge Brown Jackson

Florida is expected to be the host of a number of important midterm election races, including the gubernatorial race and the senatorial race. Last week, President Joe Biden’s (D) announcement of his pick for the Supreme Court added more focus to Florida when the President nominated Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson.

In response, Democrats from across Florida have celebrated the nomination, and one vocal supporter is Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava who endorsed Judge Brown Jackson’s “caliber and dedication.”

Taking to social media, the Miami-Dade County Mayor celebrated the nomination, sharing that “it’s with great hometown pride that I support President Biden’s nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s to the Supreme Court,” adding that “Judge Brown Jackson’s roots run deep here in Miami-Dade – a product of our Miami-Dade County public Schools, Judge Brown Jackson has long been  recognized by her peers, mentors, and the legal community as a jurist of the utmost integrity.”

Mayor Levine Cava ended the Instagram post by affirming that “now, more than ever, we need jurists of her caliber and dedication.”

The nomination comes after Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer announced in early 2022 that he would be retiring from the Supreme Court.

In response, President Biden assured voters that he would be nominating the first black woman to serve on the Supreme Court.

In nominating Judge Brown Jackson over the weekend, the President expressed that “for too long, our government, our courts haven’t looked like America.”

Because of this, Biden said that he feels “it’s time that we have a court that reflects the full talents and greatness of our nation with a nominee of extraordinary qualifications, and that we inspire all young people to believe that they can one day serve their country at the highest level.”

A vote to confirm Judge Brown Jackson is expected to take place in mid-April.
