The latest Mason-Dixon public opinion poll of the 2022 gubernatorial contest in Florida could spell disaster for Florida Democrats, as Gov. Ron DeSantis appears to be crushing the field in head-to-head contests.
According to the poll of 625 registered voters, Governor DeSantis has a big lead over the entire field of Democratic gubernatorial candidates and shows that Hispanics are very satisfied with the job he has done.
Gov. DeSantis and his "Free State of Florida" campaign lead Democratic gubernatorial frontrunner Rep. Charlie Christ 51%-43%, Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried by 53%-42%, and State Senator Annette Taddeo by 53%-37%.
Among Hispanics, Gov. DeSantis has a 50% approval rating, and amongst Independent voters, DeSantis is supported by 61% of those polled.
But even though only 16% of Black voters support DeSantis, that number at this juncture in the campaign is significantly high.
Rep. Crist is crushing both Commissioner Fried and Senator Taddeo in a separate poll of 400 “likely” Democratic voters, this as Fried’s campaign is restructuring.
“Fried’s chief of staff, Matthew Van Name, is stepping away from his job in the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to become a senior adviser and strategic manager for the campaign — an operation that has struggled to keep up with primary rival Charlie Crist in fundraising,” per Gary Fineout of POLITICO
