Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) has faced criticism from Democrats who accuse the Governor of disappearing while Floridians face a surge in COVID-19 cases. However, the Governor has responded to critics, arguing that he has been by the side of his wife who is facing breast cancer. One vocal critic has been New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D), but now Florida Senator Rick Scott (R) has come to the Governor’s defense. Citing the New York lawmaker’s recent visit to Miami Beach for New Year’s Eve, Senator Scott called her AOC a “complete hypocrite.”
Last week, AOC tweeted support for helping with “local organizing” against the Florida Governor, questioning “hasn’t Gov. DeSantis been inexplicably missing for like 2 weeks?”
She joined a number of Democrats who directed criticism towards Governor DeSantis, but now the Democratic firebrand is facing criticism over her weekend stay in Miami Beach to usher in the new year.
The DeSantis Team also criticized her over Twitter, and Senator Scotts’ words came during a nationally televised interview.
Calling her “a complete hypocrite,” Senator Scott argued that “she does it, the Democrats do it, the left media does it.” He also added that “they watch Joe Biden go and buy ice cream every day, but then they attack Republicans every moment they can.”
In reference to the New York lawmaker’s Miami Beach visit, Senator Scott said that she “wants to shut down New York and then she wants to come down here,” adding that “maybe she’s doing a fact finding mission to see what freedom is like.”
AOC was photographed over the weekend with her significant other, and both were not wearing masks. The pictures were shared by the National Review, and soon after criticism poured all over from conservative figures.
In their tweet, the DeSantis team said that AOC was “enjoying a taste of freedom.”
