Rick Scott Predicts Red Wave in 2022 Midterms

With the 2022 midterm elections now only 10 months away, political camps are gearing up for plenty of high-stakes electioneering.   US Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) , who heads up the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), is predicting a red wave in the 2022 midterms.

Historically speaking, the minority party is expected to out perform the majority party in the first midterm election of a new presidential administration.  In 2018, Democrats re-took the House and held their own in Senate elections.  In 2020, Democrats managed to hang on to their slim House majority and overrun the GOP in the Senate with VP Kamala Harris (D) as a crucial tie breaker.

Given the trend, one would assume Republicans have enough in the tank to take back the House and possibly the Senate.  However, more and more Republicans are growing confident in the GOP's chances of victory this November.

Senator Rick Scott took to Twitter this week to voice his confidence, even boldly claiming that, "A red wave is here and 2022 is going to be a great year for Republicans across the country.":

The Florida Senator credits his confidence to, "the Democrats’ radical agenda," and does not doubt that most Americans reject their sentiments.

Scott is not alone in his anticipation.  US Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL) also appears to be very optimistic for his own party going into the election based off of historical precedent alone:

"I think she (Speaker Pelosi) knows that's the direction they're going to go. Look history teaches us that power in the White House loses or the party in power in the White House loses 35 or 40 seats, we need five to regain the majority and with as far left as the policies that they've been espousing from both the administration and from Congress, said Rep. Steube. "You're pushing people who are moderate or independent into our camp, so I think I don't think we're just going to invite I think it's going to be a strong showing in November." - Congressman Steube 10/26/21

A poll among senior Capitol Hill aides confirms these predictions, with 78% of respondents predicting a Republican victory in 2022.
