Mayor Levine-Cava Backs Taddeo for Governor

State Senator Annette Taddeo (D) said this week that she would be traveling across Florida’s 67 to engage voters and to affirm that she’s working for the entire state. When Taddeo stops by Miami-Dade County, she’ll have one new lawmaker in her corner. Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava announced her endorsement of Taddeo for Governor, calling her a “good friend & home-grown leader.”

Much like Taddeo, Mayor Levine-Cava has been a vocal critic of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ (R) handling of the COVID pandemic in the Sunshine State.

One issue where both DeSantis and Levine Cava have disagreed is on mask mandates.

With Miami-Dade Public Schools’ newest announcement that it would be enacting a mask mandate in public schools, Levin Cava shared her disapproval of the Governor’s opposition.

“We’re playing politics with our children,” and “that’s shameful,” she said.

Her hope is that come November DeSantis will be voted out of office, and her pick for his replacement is Taddeo.

“I’m proud to endorse my good friend & home-grown leader from Miami-Dade, Senator Taddeo,” she said in a statement, adding that “Annette has that vision & passion, is a lifelong Democrat, working mom and small business owner.”

Mayor Levine Cava spoke highly of Taddeo, commenting that Taddeo is “the only candidate who can bring together voters from all walks of life, including Hispanic voters needed to win.”

“And, most importantly, she will be a Governor for all of Florida,” Levine Cava concluded.

The Mayor announced her support for Taddeo in a press conference held on Tuesday, saying that the state needs “fresh leadership (at) the top of state government.”

Calling herself a “proud Democrat,” she vowed that the upcoming midterm election should be a moment to “reverse course” and ensure that there is no more “undermining of local control.”
