Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ (R) campaign is taking aim at “blue state hypocrites” after his team welcomed Florida Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D) to Miami Beach over New Year’s weekend. Gov. DeSantis, who’s received heavy criticism for his response to the COVID-19 pandemic, once again directed verbal jabs at the Democratic firebrand, referencing her criticism and the policies that have been enacted in New York.

In a message sent to supporters, DeSantis’ team expressed that “with her home state of New York depressed by lockdowns, school closures, vaccine passports, and mask mandates, AOC decided to take a vacation down to Miami in the free state of Florida for New Years.”

“For as much as AOC and dozens of other lockdown politicians have criticized Governor DeSantis, Florida is the first place they flock to when looking to flee their own draconian COVID policies and enjoy their God-given freedom,” the team added.

The Governor has opposed mask mandates, vaccine mandates and vaccine passports, which has brought him both detractors and supporters.

“As Governor DeSantis said, we’re thrilled that Florida is the place people know they can visit and live like normal people and make their own decisions,” the team noted, lamenting that they “just wish more blue states would follow our lead.”

Affirming that Democrats are trying “to evade the burdens they have placed on people in their own states,” the team addressed that “one thing is abundantly clear as we head into 2022: Democrats are using COVID as a ruse to implement mandates, lockdown, and other oppressive restrictions that give them more power. Because it’s about power, not public health.”

The team also vowed that the Governor will resist “the fake outrage and conspiracy theories from the left” to “keep fighting to protect freedom in Florida.”
