Stephanie Murphy Will not Seek Re-Election to Congress

Florida Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D) has just shocked the political world. In a video statement, Rep. Murphy has just announced that she will not seek a 4th term in office. Rep. Murphy becomes the latest Congressional Democrat to call it quits and will not seek re-election on the heels of an apparent 2022 Midterm Republican sweep.

“I strongly believe in a citizen Congress, where ordinary citizens run for office in search of duty and service, not in search of a career. And I never intended my time in Congress to become a career,” said Murphy in her announcement video. “These last few years have been some of the most rewarding moments of my life, but also some of the most challenging. Public service is not without personal sacrifice. And as a mom of two young children, my time away from them has been hard. So, I wanted to share with you that I will not be seeking another term as your representative in Congress. This was not an easy decision, but it was the right decision.”

“I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together over these last five years,” said Murphy. “I am most proud that through it all - whether the Democrats were in charge or the Republicans, whether under President Trump or President Biden - I was consistently named one of the most bipartisan and effective Members of Congress. Because from day one, I have always put people over politics.”

Murphy, who was part of the "moderate" Blue Dog Democratic Caucus in the House of Representatives, was facing a tough Republican challenge from combat veterans Cory Mills and Brady Duke, as well as from Florida Legislator Anthony Sabatini, Debary Vice Mayor Erika Benfield, Jeremy Liggett, and Joseph Cavagna.

"Murphy, along with her Democratic ilk are quick to cut and run, and quit on Americans, but only after voting to destroy their American way of life," said Cory Mills. Rep. Sabatini has called for Murphy to resign.

National Republicans were quick to respond to Murphy's decision not to run in 2022
