Fried Approves of DeSantis Being Compared to Fidel Castro

Share

The narrative that Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried and Florida Democrats have been pushing against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has been that he is nothing more than a tyrant, a despot cut from the same cloth as murderous dictators like Fidel Castro, whose administration has acted as more of a "regime" than a governing office.

“From Nicolás Maduro’s actions to undermine Venezuela’s electoral process and suppress votes, to Daniel Ortega’s moves to intimidate and confuse voters in Nicaragua, tactics to limit voting has been widespread in South American regimes. Voter suppression is a slippery slope that ends only with injustice," stated Commissioner Fried of Gov. DeSantisback in May 2021.

Appearing on MSNBC's "The Reid Out" TV program, Commissioner Fried nodded in approval of Progressive host Joy Reid likening Gov. DeSantis's recent press conference where he called for the reestablishing of a civilian-military force in the state.

Reid: The image with the child standing there, which definitely had some Fidel kinda weirdness to it, was weird.

Gov. DeSantis nor his office could be reached for comment, but the Republican Governor's Association was quick to condemn Fried's nod of approval, as Spokeswoman Joanna Rodriguez called her support of Reid's remark "a slap in the face to the victims of the Castro regime who call Florida home as well as those of us whose families were forced to flee his murderous tyranny."

“Nikki Fried’s agreement with an MSNBC host that Florida’s democratically elected governor reminds her of Fidel Castro is a slap in the face to the tens of thousands of victims of the Castro regime’s murderous brutality,” said RGA spokesperson Joanna Rodriguez. “The sad thing is it isn’t even the first time Fried has shown a complete disregard for Florida Hispanics. Charlie Crist and Annette Taddeo must clarify whether they agree with Fried’s comparison or condemn her immediately.

Sen. Taddeo recently referred to DeSantis's administration as "little Ronnies regime" but has yet to equate him directly to Fidel Castro.
