After Republicans overtook Democrats in registering voters, GOP lawmakers are now using the momentum to criticize Democrat lawmakers. In recent comments, Florida Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (R) echoed in her Republican colleagues who have used their platform to accuse Democrats of sympathizing with socialist policies. During an appearance with Fox news host and former Republican Congressman Trey Gowdy, Elvira Salazar discussed the Hispanic community and the upcoming 2022 midterm election, saying that “we are Americans, we’re not socialists.”

According to a poll conducted by the Wall Street Journal, Hispanic voters are split between the political parties. Of those polled for the data, 37% side with Republicans, 37% side with Democrats and 22% are undecided.

During her appearance on Sunday Night in America, Elvira Salazar said that the Hispanic demographic is aligning to the platform of the Republican party, which is resulting in Hispanic voters siding with the GOP on political issues.

“We share the same values that are entrenched in the Republican party,” she said, adding that this is includes “God-fearing, law-abiding, taxpaying” and “not only that, that we are Americans, we’re not socialists.”

“We want to come into the country and we want to contribute,” she commented.

Elvira Salazar further shared that the Hispanic community has “realized after 30 years, after Ronald Reagan who was the last president who gave this community any type of legality. We have realized after thirty years the Democratic party has been playing political football.”

Elvira Salazar further reiterated that “we come here for two things. We come because we know this is the promised land, we want to share those fruits. And we want to have a better economy. We want to be able to go from rags to riches which is what this American exceptionality promises.”
