An outpouring of support has taken to social media after the passing of Senator Harry Reid (D). The once Senate Democratic leader and Senator of Nevada passed away this week at the age of 82 after a long battle with Pancreatic Cancer.

Democrats from across the country have shared their reflections on what Senator Harry Reid meant to the country and what his lasting impact will be for generations to come.

In a message posted this week, Senator Reid's wife, Landra Reid, shared, "I am heartbroken to announce the passing of my husband, former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. He died peacefully this afternoon, surrounded by our family, following a courageous, four-year battle with pancreatic cancer."

President Joe Biden (D) released a statement after the announcement, calling Reid one of "the all-time great Senate Majority Leaders in our history." Soon after, messages of remembrance flooded social media.

Florida Rep. Val Demings (D), who's currently challenging Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R), issued a statement on Twitter,  saying that "today we lost one of the most efficient, bipartisan leaders of our time. Senator Harry Reid was a champion for working families not just in his community, but across the country."

Demings also called for Americans to "honor his legacy by continuing to produce legislation that puts our people first."

The President further honored Reid on Twitter, writing that "a son of Searchlight, Nevada, Harry never forgot his humble roots. A boxer, he never gave up a fight. A great American, he looked at challenges and believed it was within our capacity to do good - to do right."

President Biden, who served with  Reid in the Senate, called Reid "a dear friend and a giant of our history."

In 2018, Senator Reid underwent surgery for pancreatic cancer and less than a year later he informed that his cancer had gone into remission.

His legacy includes having served in a number of political offices including Lt. Governor of Nevada and Nevada Representative.
