DCCC Launches Partnership for Campaign Diversity

This week, CNN warned that “Democrats are in a lot of trouble” heading into the 2022 midterm election. While recent polls have indicated that voters are favoring the Republican party to handle issues like rising inflation and the economy, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) is now joining forces with the Blue Leadership Collaborative to tackle campaign staff diversity.

In November, it was reported that Republicans had registered more people than democrats, ending a longtime reign Democrats had conquered when it came to voter registration.

Democrats are now focused on establishing the most efficient team to bolster support for the party.

Justin Myers, the executive director of Blue Leadership Collaborative, commented on the partnership, arguing that it would promote “cultural competency” among campaign managers.

“In order to run effective campaigns, and to win, it’s our belief, and I think the belief in most of the Democratic Party, that you need to have managers that are culturally competent, that have the ability to speak to every part of the coalition,” expressed Myers.

Moreover, Myers detailed that the class of managers that have enlisted for congressional campaigns are part of a group that managed state legislative races in Virginia. A dozen of those individuals are scheduled to manage congressional campaigns.

“I remember what it was like to try to even become a manager on the other side, and speaking to the DCCC,’ Myers commented, adding that “sometimes those buildings are hard to navigate. And more importantly, I think historically, we have just seen an inability to really support managers the way that they need.”

In Virginia’s gubernatorial race, Democrats faced a surprise loss after Republican Glenn Youngkin (R) defeated Governor Terry McAuliffe (D). The announcement also comes at a time when Democrats are facing infighting after Senator Joe Manchin (D) announced that he would not be voting in favor of the President's Build Back Better bill.
