23 House Democrats have announced that they will not be running for reelection in the upcoming 2022 midterm election. This includes 3 Democrats in Florida. Along with a flailing approval rating for the Biden Administration, Democrats are strategizing the best possible way to maintain and expand their control as the country heads to the polls in response to the work the Biden Administration has conducted.
On the other hand, Republicans are looking to elect new lawmakers as many political pundits argue that a “red wave” is likely given the political climate.
In Florida, Florida Rep. Val Demings (D) is challenging Senator Marco Rubio (R), Florida Rep. Charlie Crist (D) is challenging Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R), and Florida Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D) announced that she would not be seeking a fourth term in office.
In contrast, California Rep. and House Majority Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D) announced that she would be pursuing reelection, which would mark her 18th term in Congress.
Pelosi has worked closely with President Biden in order to ensure his plans move forward with ease, but with three vacant House seats in Florida, Republicans in the state are looking to capitalize.
The Biden Administration’s approval rating has taken a significant hit, but they also directed a message to voters this week, championing measures it has taken in light of the ongoing COVID pandemic.
The two achievements the Biden Administration highlighted were the American Rescue Plan and the Bipartisan infrastructure law.
In terms of what the Democratic party is doing now, Biden asserted that they are ‘fighting back against the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic,” “Protecting voting rights against the GOP’s suppression efforts,” and “continuing to bring down costs and rebuilding the middle class.”
The Biden administration warned that “all of this progress could be erased if Republicans win just one Senate seat or five House seats.”
