Florida Rep. Charlie Crist (D) sent a message this week to his supporters, arguing that “Gov. DeSantis doesn’t care about Floridians.” The former governor of Florida is vying to unseat DeSantis and assume the office again but this time as a Democrat.
In turn, the message further attempts to draw a distinction between the two with Crist adding that DeSantis “only cares about his presidential ambitions and satisfying wealthy donors.”
Since announcing his campaign to challenge DeSantis for his gubernatorial seat, Crist has been a vocal critic of the Florida Governor.
Accusing DeSantis of having “failed Florida in every possible way,” Crist outlined some reasons as to why he feels Governor DeSantis has not led the Sunshine State in the right direction.
Crist lists that DeSantis “signed a sweeping voter suppression bill into law,” “opened pop-up COVID-19 vaccine sites in rich Florida neighborhoods full of his political donors,” “jet-setted across America on a fundraising tour while the Delta variant sickened and killed Floridians,” “banned mask requirements in schools and threatened to withhold pay from officials who’ve implemented them,” “urged the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade,” “said he might support an abortion ban like the one in Texas,” “refused to accept that climate change is an existential threat to our state,” “failed to prepare Florida’s coastal communities for rising sea levels and stronger hurricanes” and “ignored the ‘red tide’ algae bloom that’s scaring off tourists.”
In short, Crist noted that “this isn’t even a comprehensive list of his failures!”
To challenge DeSantis in the November 2022 election, Crist must face Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried (D) and his 2014 gubernatorial runningmate state Senator Annette Taddeo (D) in a soon-to-be highly contested primary race.
Most recently, Crist received the endorsement of Bob Butterworth (D), Florida’s longest-serving Attorney General.
