With the Cuban protests having lost steam over the past couple of months, the resistance to the oppressive government has organized its biggest display yet. Now, the United States is showing bipartisan support for the November 15th island-wide Cuban protest.
Although Republicans have usually been more vocal on Cuba than Democrats, the rhetoric surrounding this demonstration seems to be uniform, as both parties call out the Cuban regime's "human rights violations."
US Rep. Carlos A. Gimenez (R-FL) has arguably been the most vocal on the issue, signing a letter to Secretary Blinken, "to send a clear message to the illegitimate Cuban regime that their constant denial of basic human rights to the Cuban people WILL NOT be tolerated any longer," writes Gimenez.
US Rep. Kathy Castor (D-FL) followed suit and claims she will stand "with them in solidarity," against the worsening Communist regime.
"As Cubans and Cuban Americans gather in peaceful protest, I stand with them in solidarity – for freedom and fundamental human rights in the face of worsening oppression from the communist regime," stated Rep. Castor.
Fortunately, Secretary Blinken seems to have gotten the bipartisan memo, posting about Cuba as of last night. The secretary claimed that the Cuban regime has the opportunity to hear and listen to the Cuban people during peaceful demonstrations on #15N, and to demonstrate respect for human rights.":
"The Cuban regime has the opportunity to hear and listen to the Cuban people during peaceful demonstrations on #15N, and to demonstrate respect for human rights. We commend the brave Cuban people showing the strength of their will and the power of their voice," said Sec. Blinken.
However, there still seems to be a partisan divide as to how the United States should intervene in the conflict. Many such as, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and US Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) have suggested supplying an internet connection to the island for the people to communicate and organize quicker.
Senator Rubio is doubtful of this, as he has previously told the Floridian that he thinks President Biden (D) is ignoring the situation, and hinting at possibly working with the regime.
