DeSantis Grills Biden Over $450K Payout to Illegal Immigrants

I’ve seen a lot that’s happened over the last nine or ten months that I didn’t think I’d ever see – but this takes the cake.

Since reports surfaced last month that the Biden administration would be paying $450,000 to immigrants that were separated from their families at the border, Republicans have expressed their disappointment at the administration’s decision to do so. In response, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R), a staunch critic of  President Biden, called it “a slap in the face to every hard-working American.”

The $450,000 would be financial compensation for a number of lawsuits filed on behalf of children and parents who argue that the government inflicted lasting psychological trauma. While there has been no direct confirmation from a member of the Biden administration, Republicans are still criticizing the idea of the compensation, and the Florida Governor has once again directed verbal jabs at the President.

“You’ve had all kinds of really bad policies throughout our country that has limited freedom,” said the Governor over the weekend. “And you’re going to turn around for that and you’re going to do $475,000 for an individual that came illegally to this country?”

Under President Trump, the country enacted a “Zero Tolerance” policy that President Biden has worked to roll back. The compensation would be an effort by the administration to respond to policy.

“I’ve seen a lot in my day - I’ve seen a lot that’s happened over the last nine or ten months that I didn’t think I’d ever see – but this takes the cake,” DeSantis expressed, adding that “if that is done, that is going to be a slap in the face to every American who works hard and plays by the rules.”

The Governor detailed that “it will especially be a slap in the face to people that have immigrated legally to this country,” noting that  “that should not be allowed to stand” because “it’s wrong, and whatever we can do in Florida to fight back against it, we will do.”
