Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) has called a Special Session for lawmakers to address the vaccine mandates the federal government has recently issued.  Gov. DeSantis, who has officially filed for reelection, affirmed that the state is “going to strike a blow for freedom.” However, while the Governor may have picked up supporters in his crusade, detractors are still far and wide throughout the state. Florida Rep. Charlie Crist (D), who’s vying to unseat the Governor, recently criticized DeSantis, calling his administration an “authoritarian regime.”

Since announcing his reelection, DeSantis has vowed: “to take on 4 more years of defending freedom!”

Warning that “Florida’s future is hanging in the balance,” Crist is one of three Democrats that is also looking to make a difference in the Sunshine state.

Over the weekend, the former governor of Florida took part in a virtual conference with Protect Our Care Florida, which advertised the Build Back Better Plan.

Sharing that when issues are directing affecting the well-being of Floridians and their families, “it’s not about right versus left – it’s about right versus wrong.”

In turn, Crist argues that the way to do right by the state is by passing the Build Back Better Plan. However, he expressed that Governor DeSantis is standing in the way of improvement.

“After emerging from another deadly wave of the pandemic, in which Gov. DeSantis’ soft on COVID policies made Florida the global epicenter not once but twice, it boggles the mind why our Governor is still not working on Medicaid expansion.”

Now, as the state faces the lowest number of COVID-19 cases in the country, Crist is directing verbal jabs at Governor DeSantis, commenting that the Governor has “called a Special Session to ban business owners from doing what they feel is right to protect their customers and their employees.”

Sharing that “it’s despicable,” Crist added that “the people’s House will act for Floridians, even when Gov. DeSantis and his authoritarian regime choose not to.”
