Florida Legislator Says DeSantis Wants Police to die of COVID

Share

A Democratic Florida state legislator says that Governor Ron DeSantis’s recent call for a special legislative session to address the vaccine mandates the Biden Administration was nothing more than a ploy to get more police officers to contract and die from COVID.

“That’s something that cannot wait until the regular legislative session next year and needs to happen soon and so we will be calling the legislature back for a special session,” stated DeSantis.

"COVID-19 is now the #1 cause of death for Florida law enforcement and @GovRonDeSantis would like to keep it that way. #SpecialSession," tweeted Rep. Carlos Guillermo Smith (D).

Democratic State Senator Shevrin Jones, like many other Democrats, took exception to DeSantis’s call for a special session, calling it a move “focused on scoring political points with his base on the health and safety of Florida.”

“Yet again, Gov. DeSantis is troublingly more focused on scoring political points with his base than on the health and safety of Florida.  At every turn throughout the pandemic, the Governor has rejected science, further endangering the lives of hardworking people across the state.  Florida deserves leadership that will promote truth and facts, not more reckless politics with human lives on the line,” stated Sen. Jones in a press release.

Sen. Jones is not alone in saying that DeSantis is putting lives at risk by preventing vaccine mandates. State Rep. Carlos Guillermo Smith (D), arguably one of the most militant progressive Democrats in the Florida House of Representatives, went as far as to claim that DeSantis wanted to see more members of Florida’s law enforcement community die.

The date for DeSantis’s vaccine mandate special session has not yet been announced.
