Although COVID-19 may be coming to an end, it certainly has a lot more time left in Florida politics. With the debate over Regeneron practically over, State Rep. Carlos G. Smith (D-49) has revved up his world famous criticisms of Governor DeSantis (R-FL) once again, stating DeSantis, "Doesn't really care about vaccine mandates."
Wesh 2 News reported on Rep. Smith's comments, as he called DeSantis on COVID-19, "nakedly political," adding that, "Governor DeSantis DOESN’T REALLY CARE about vaccine mandates, he cares about GOP votes in Iowa and Republican campaign contributions in Utah which is what this is going to earn him."
Smith then took to Twitter to post his fiery rant, which gained some mixed reactions:
Smith also called the Governor's actions "nakedly political" saying; “@GovRonDeSantis DOESN’T REALLY CARE about vaccine mandates, he cares about GOP votes in Iowa and Republican campaign contributions in Utah which is what this is going to earn him." -@WESH pic.twitter.com/SWS63PR3XR

In terms of Governor DeSantis and mandates, It should be no surprise that DeSantis does not support mandates. One supporter of the Governor even commented on this same Tweet writing, "Pretty sure he’s focused on reelection. Check the polls mate, freedom is a good thing."
Other political figures in Florida such as Rep. Ana Eskamani (D-49) from the same corner of Florida have battled it out with the Governor on Twitter. Just last week the progressive representative quoted, “If the real goal of protesting mask mandates at school board meetings is to light fires, I won’t stand by and watch them burn," quoting Jennifer Jenkins a Brevard County School Board Member on mask mandate protests.
