Crist Unveils ‘Justice for all’ Reform Agenda

Share

After expanding his campaign’s outreach effort and amassing two dozen new endorsements, Florida Rep. Charlie Crist (D) has just unveiled his new “Justice for All” reform agenda.

The reform agenda seeks to expand voting rights in Florida while also addressing gun violence. Crist announced his plan during a Tampa news conference this week alongside elected officials, noting that further reform plans would be announced as he continues his tour across Florida this week.

In announcing his plan, Crist, who formerly served as Governor of Florida as a Republican, commented that his agenda “is a promise to communities across Florida that have watched and felt our government turning its back on them, that the Crist Administration will usher in a new era, one where our state will not turn a blind eye to injustices, but tackle them head-on.”

“For too long, Florida’s criminal justice policies have disproportionately failed Floridians of color and cost too many their lives,” Crist added, mentioning that during his tenure as Governor of Florida from 2006 to 2010, he was able to restore the voting rights of more than 155,000 Florida residents. And, if he should be elected the next Governor of Florida, he assured that he would endorse a law that would automatically restore the voting rights of all individuals who complete their sentences regardless of any financial restitution or outstanding fees.

“Just as I have done before, I will continue to stand on the side of compassion and forgiveness and on the side of protecting my neighbors,” Crist vowed, adding that it’s a motivator to announce such a plan that would “support common-sense gun safety measures to get guns off our streets and efforts to restore the voting rights of those folks who have served their time and are now looking to rejoin our communities.”
