After news broke that the Biden Administration would have a tighter control over monoclonal antibody treatments in the Sunshine State, Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R) took to social media to share his disappointment. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) has been a proponent of the antibody treatment. Senator Rubio has also supported the treatment, but now he’s accusing the Biden Administration of only wanting “power and control” with their new distribution plan.
On social media, Senator Rubio aired his frustration by commenting that “every day it’s something new with these people in the White House.” Rubio admitted that “the decision to ration antibody treatments proves they focused on public health.” At a time when the student is experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases, Rubio argues that the Biden Administration should not have a tighter grip on the treatment.
“Do you know how many people I know, including vaccinated people that got COVID and were able to get an antibody treatment, and as a result of the antibody treatment, it kept them from getting really sick, it kept them from the hospital,” shared Rubio in a video accompanying his comments on Twitter.
Most recently, Florida Rep. Darren Soto (D) tested positive in a “breakthrough infection,” and he shared that he was undergoing the treatment in order “to further reduce potential symptoms.”
While Rubio admits that the treatment isn’t “a substitute for vaccines,” he does admit that “they have prevented thousands of hospitalizations included in breakthrough cases.”
In turn, he argued that “rationing these treatments” is nothing but “a move that reeks of partisan payback against states like Florida.”
Similarly, Governor DeSantis echoed in his remarks, slamming the Biden Administration for its announcement regarding the treatment and asserting that the President is “punishing Floridians and residents of other Republican-led states because we refuse to bend the knee to… unconstitutional edicts.”
