Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) is the subject of a new video advertisement titled “Florida is Vietnam.” COVID-19 cases in the state continue to rise, and in the advertisement, the Governor’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic takes center stage. The video, drawing a comparison between Vietnam and the pandemic, argues that "under Governor Ron DeSantis, Covid deaths in Florida will surpass American deaths" during the entirety of the Vietnam war.
Since assuming office, President Joe Biden (D) and Governor DeSantis have been on opposing ends in reference to measures that can be taken to combat the virus in the Sunshine State. The Governor has vowed to oppose vaccine mandates, vaccine passports, and he's also vowed to oppose mask mandates. This has angered the President, and both have taken part in a back and forth on the topics.
The "Florida is Vietnam" video shared on social media by Don Winslow comments that the United States lost “in the span of 11 years, America lost 58,200 soldiers in Vietnam.” In contrast, “under Ron DeSantis’ disastrous leadership, Florida has lost 47,000 people to COVID.”
While Democrats criticize DeSantis over his gubernatorial efforts during the pandemic, Friends of DeSantis released a statement from the Governor wherein he criticizes the Biden Administration over the influx of crossings at the border, an issue the Biden Administration has struggled with since Biden took office.
Sharing that “the Biden Administration is missing in action,” DeSantis added that “as 15,000 migrants illegally poured over our southern border this weekend and set up camp under a bridge in Del Rio, Texas, Joe Biden was nowhere to be found."
"Instead of doing the job he was elected for, Joe Biden can't be bothered to lift a finger to defend our nation's sovereignty," the Governor said, adding that "this is unacceptable."
Finally, DeSantis that "pretending the crisis along our southern border doesn’t exist won’t make it go away and it won’t make us forget the disastrous impact your failed policies are having on our nation."
