Democratic Candidate McCormick Promises $1,000 to Voters in FL Special Election

When US Rep. Alcee Hastings' (D-FL) passed away after a long-fought battle with Pancreatic cancer, a special election to fill his vacated congressional seat was set for January 11, 2021.  While there are about a dozen Democratic candidates in the race, it looks like the race could center more around Sheila Cherfilus McCormick and her $1,000 per month promise to constituents, if she is voted in.

It appears that the influence of trendy, 2020 presidential candidate Andrew Yang and his "Freedom Dividend" has inspired other candidates, reaching as far as Broward County with McCormick running off of a similar pitch.

It is unclear what McCormick's $1,000 bailout means by just looking at her signs, but off the cuff, it shows that constituents will literally get money for a McCormick win.

This is obviously a new candidate who now endorses Universal Basic Income.  And with major names such as Elon Musk endorsing the idea, Americans are finding the concept more palatable.

However, Florida's own, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) feels like UBI is already here and will be solidified with the Biden presidency.  Rubio knocked President Biden "over the expansion to the child tax credit included in his coronavirus relief law enacted earlier this year, arguing the move was “the first step toward a universal basic income” in a recent opinion piece." - The Hill

Rubio took out an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal. He referred to child allowance and UBI as "wealth redistribution" a phrase very similar to world economies with Marxist tendencies.
