As the anti-Cuban government protests spread from Cuban cities to the United States, the issue has remained all but stagnant. Now mainstream politicians from across political party lines have backed the Cuban people, particularly US Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), who remains optimistic on Cuba and is calling for an end to the regime.
Senator Rubio, who has been very vocal about liberating Cuba even before the protests, has recently taken to Twitter to denounce the Cuban regime and Communism across the globe. The Senator who claims to be "banned in & sanctioned by China" posted on Twitter today that "Years from now free Cubans will remember July 11th as the light that signaled the beginning of the end of the malignant regime."
Watch Rubio's video montage:
Senator Rubio feels that although the US embargo on the country is not responsible for the oppression of the Cuban people, the United States is still not doing enough, calling President Biden (D) "lazy" in his response. The Biden Administration is examining ways for families to be able to legally send money to people or relatives that live in Cuba. Sounds nice, except Senator Rubio points out that “Sending money to Cuba isn’t banned,” adding that “what is banned is sending it through the military-controlled bank."
Rubio furthered his criticism of the Liberal argument, that the US embargo is to blame for the domestic issues in Cuba, and that "this is not a country that’s isolated" in one of his most recent speeches on the issue.
The rest of his speech was shared on Twitter, arguing that “the only ‘blockade’ is the one the regime has imposed on the people of Cuba.”
The issue of who is to blame for Cuba still remains up for contention. The Floridian recently reported that Democrat Rep. Carlos G. Smith (D-49) placed some blame on the US for isolating the nation, while other moderate Democrats such as US Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D-FL) have called out the Marxist-styled government on the island.
