Charlie Crist Picks Up Senator Gibson Endorsement

Florida's 2022 gubernatorial general election race will be without a doubt one of the most hotly contested and viewed statewide contests in the country.  However, Floridians expect the Democrat face-off between Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried (D-FL) and Rep. Charlie Crist (D-FL) to be just as ugly.  But with an ideological split in the Democrat camp, Crist continues to be the favorite for the nominee as he picks up an endorsement from State Senator Audrey Gibson (D).

In a recent Tweet, Charlie Crist broke the news of the endorsement while posting a Q&A video of himself and Senator Gibson:

"I always tell people in my district, who represents you matters.  A Charlie Crist as Governor, has an extensive background on what is the right thing to do for this state." - Senator Audrey Gibson 7/6/2021.

Rep. Crist, leading Democratic challenger to Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) thanked Senator Gibson for her "gracious endorsement," and elaborated on why it is important to flip Florida blue in 2022.  The representative stated "There is so much on the line.  Civil rights.  Education rights.  Protecting our environment.  Women's right to choose."

"As President Obama used to always say, when we vote, we win.  And so it's a matter of being engaged and getting out to vote.  Encouraging all your friends to do the exact same thing," said Crist as he summarized the short clip.

Crist's endorsements may help him win the Democrat nomination, but the data suggests quite the uphill climb for him or any Democrat nominee against juggernaut incumbent Ron DeSantis. DeSantis over the past 4 years has gained national notoriety over the environment, pandemic response, and education, any way you slice it.

A previous poll reported by the Floridian, and the first one, in fact, suggested DeSantis having a 90%+ chance of winning a second term.  And with Commissioner Fried in the race, we could see the progressive vote more than likely assemble behind her candidacy.
