Gov. DeSantis Passes Sen. Book's SB 1532

State Senator Lauren Book (D-32) continues to add to her long list of achievements this past session as Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) signed Senate Bill 1532 to further modify the child support program in the state of Florida.

Senator Book, who has a long track record of fighting for women and families in Florida and  was recently chosen to be the Senate Minority Leader, worked to pass multiple measures for families and SB 1532 is now on its way to becoming law.

The Senator has stated that the bill "contains provisions to ensure divorcing parents of a child with special needs receive special information and resources to support their child," in her recent press release after the Governor's signature yesterday.

Book issued a statement in reaction to the bill officially becoming law:

"At a time when so many Floridians are forced to pick and choose what they can afford on a daily basis, this bill – now Florida law – ensures that contract and gig workers are paying their fair share of child support and that individuals who are incarcerated for crimes against their child or co-parent are classified as willfully unemployed to ensure they’re not off the hook for payment."

Book further promised that her legislation "will help make sure parents have the information and resources they need to support their special needs children through the changes their family is going through so that everyone can come out stronger on the other side."
