Shortly after Reps. Mario Diaz-Balart (R) and Carlos Gimenez (R) concluded a meeting in Miami on Colombia to discuss the ongoing civil unrest, the overall climate in that country, and the resolution Rep. Diaz-Balart will presenting on the matter this week, Colombian American and Republican Activist Fabio Andrade (picture-centered) tweeted his appreciation for Reps. Diaz-Balart, Gimenez, and Maria Elvira Salazar, and Sens. Rick Scott and Marco Rubio for supporting Colombia, "the pearl that the radical Communist Left seeks to steal."
Little did Andrade know that his show of support would be met with stern opposition from former Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D), who accused him of making "false comments" that serve only to "divide and confuse our Hispanic community."
"As an Ecuadorian with dear friends from Colombia, this type of false comment only divides and confuses our Hispanic community that needs our officers to work for our families. I assure you @FabrioASays that @Mariodb Salazar and Gimenez don't.
It appears that Rep. Mucarsel-Powell has taken issue with Andrade's specific denunciation of the "radical Communist Left" that he says is at work in Colombia. Andrade's comments are specific to Colombia, nowhere else, but it looks as if Mucarsel-Powell believes Andrade's reference extends to the U.S.
Either way, Mucarsel-Powell's response to Andrade can be perceived as her taking issue with his condemnation of radical Communists as a whole, even though she has denounced Communism.
Mucarsell-Powell lost to Rep. Gimenez in the 2020 presidential election. Republicans defeated Democrats by running a national anti-Communist, anti-Socialist campaign.
