President Joe Biden’s call for the expedited withdrawal of all U.S. troops from Afghanistan is moving at a fever pitch, and it appears as if the president will be leaving kidnapped U.S. Navy veteran Mark Frerichs behind with his captors, the Taliban.
According to U.S. Army Green Beret and U.S. Rep. Michael Waltz (R), who served several tours in Afghanistan, the U.S. has “given away all leverage in terms of getting him back” with the hasty pull out of troops, saying that “very troops that could go rescue him, if we find him, are now leaving.”
Waltz adds that Frerichs family is “absolutely distraught” over Biden’s troop withdrawal and that he and others who are concerned for Frerichs well-being have only received “a big collective sigh and shoulder shrug from the White House.
“We've given away all leverage in terms of getting him back, and by the way the very troops that could go rescue him, if we find him, are now leaving,” said Waltz. “So that family is just absolutely distraught as they should be, and we're getting a big collective sigh and shoulder shrug from the White House.”
Aside from giving up a huge offensive position against neighboring China, Russia, and Iran, not to mention being a deterrent to existing Islamic terror threats in the region, by pulling out of Afghanistan, Biden leaves some 18,000 Afghan translators who “fought with us, stood beside us” will also be left behind to be hunted down by the Taliban.
Hope is running out for the interpreters an the navy veteran held captive.
“I want to be clear. If he doesn’t act, and he doesn’t get these people out, blood will be on his hands and on his administration hands, and I for one will very publicly and very loudly hold him accountable.”- Rep. Michael Waltz.
