Rubio Defends DeSantis Signing of Controversial SB 90 Election Integrity Law

Moments after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law the controversial SB 90 election integrity Senate bill, Florida Democrats unleashed a wave of sharp criticisms and attacks over the popular governor's decision of only allowing Fox News to cover the event and for shutting the rest of the media out, including The Floridian.

But while it seems as if the entire Democratic world has come down on DeSantis' "authoritarian" and "state-run" move to only allow Fox News to cover the event, not to mention being called a "racist" for committing egregious "voter suppression," Republican legislators came to DeSantis' defense.

Arguably the largest, most recognizable  Florida politico, Senator Marco Rubio, responded to a recent New York Times story accusing DeSantis of signing into law a bill that "will make it more difficult for people to vote by mail and the use of drop boxes."

"Just like a ministry of propaganda they activate to spread lies, distortions & misinformation," tweeted Sen. Rubio. " The truth is the new #Florida law doesn’t make it more difficult to vote by mail It makes it more difficult for political organizations to go out & collect thousands of ballots."

Rubio is right. The law, even by DeSantis' own admission, still allows voters to request absentee or mail-in ballots and does not prohibit the use of ballot drop boxes, it only limits their use to early voting hours and must be manned, not just left out in random locations.

Rubio's defense of DeSantis' signing of the controversial SB 90 election integrity comes as both men are considered frontrunners in the 2024 Republican presidential primary sweepstakes, but only if former President Donald Trump does not run for reelection, which the former president has already said he was strongly considering.

DeSantis is also considered Trump's top choice as a running mate. But before DeSantis or Rubio can talk about 2024, both men need to first win their respective 2022 mid-term election races for governor and senate.
