In response to an emotional video Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (R) posted on Twitter to bring attention to the Democratic electoral process in Equador, Equadorian-born and former Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D) stated she and other Ecuadorians know all too well what it's like to fight against socialism and populist authoritarianism, adding that the Republican Party was the party of socialism.
"Yes, Maria Elvira (pictured), we Ecuadorians know what it's like to fight against Socialism and populist authoritarianism like the one your political party follows," stated Mucarsel-Powell. For this reason, we should elect people that fight for Democracy for everyone, not those who support corrupt warlords like Trump."
Rep. Elvira Salazar's message was taped shortly after meeting Equadorian President Guillermo Lasso, and contained hope that countries like Venezuela and Cuba would have a similar electoral process and be liberated from the Leftist ideology that only brings misery, oppression, and exile, to millions of people living in the Western Hemisphere.
Recently, Mucarsel-Powell (D) supported the efforts by Democratic State Senator Annette Taddeo (D) in defending against charges of socialism made against Democrats by Republicans. Mucarsel-Powell has asserted that Republicans have been pushing “lies & false attacks” against Democrats, falsely accusing them of running a socialist agenda in the 2020 presidential election and currently in the current 2022 mid-term election
“The lies & false attacks from Republicans about socialism have to stop,” tweeted Mucarsel-Powell. “They’re destroying our democracy using lies to get votes, ultimately turning our government into a dictatorship.”
