With Charlie Crist (D) already announcing that he is once again running to become Governor of Florida, Floridians await the June 1st announcement from Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried (D). Now, State Senator Annette Taddeo (D), who formerly served as the Democratic Lieutenant Governor candidate in 2014, has now confirmed that she is exploring a path to the Democratic nomination to become Florida’s next Governor.
Sen. Taddeo expressed that entering the race is important because “this Governor has failed Floridians and must be held accountable.”
Wednesday afternoon, Taddeo commented on the need to replace Governor Ron DeSantis (R). “From denying businesses the freedom to operate to blocking public schools from the full funding they need to provide a strong education system, Ron DeSantis continues to infringe on the rights of Floridians to have the freedom to succeed in our state,” she shared.
Taddeo went on to explain that “with Congresswoman Val Demings pivoting to a likely U.S. Senate campaign, I will continue meeting with supporters across the state to assess the. Best. Path for me to do the most good for the people of Florida.” “Our state is in desperate need of change at the top and I am excited to have earnest conversations on how we build the strongest coalition to win statewide in 2022 and beyond,” Taddeo added.
Taddeo released a poll on Wednesday from SEA Polling that indicated she had 13% support among Democratic primary voters, but 34% of voters - when Taddeo, Crist and Fried are compared – say that they are still undecided.
Commenting on the recent string of legislations that DeSantis has signed, Taddeo commented that DeSantis and the GOP have “behaved like an authoritarian regime.” She called the bills “regressive, especially when it comes to our First Amendment right to be able to protest.”
