Lazy POLITICO Reporters Skip Google, Make False Claim About First Black Republicans in Florida

Share

Call it laziness for refusing to conduct simple research, or call it being just plain disconnected with Americans Politics, but POLITICO may need to educate their reporters about former Congressman Allen West and Congressman Josiah Thomas Walls— “Florida's first Black Republicans in Congress”

In a recent “Red, Fresh & Blue” segment about Florida Congressman Byron Donalds (R), the writers of the story Eugene Daniels, Kyrstal Campos, and Michael Cadenhead —all “persons of color”— headlined Rep. Donalds as being “Florida’s First Black Republican in Congress.”

Oy Vey!

Look, I get it. Daniels (Black), Campos (Brown). and Cadenhead (Black), were just trying to make this post about being Black in America. Why not, don't we all live in the Black Lives Matter movement (sarcasm)?

This is borderline incompetence because all you have to do is “Google”  “Florida’s First Black Republican in Congress” and the name of Josiah Thomas Walls comes up.

Who was Josiah Thomas Walls?

Well, according to the U.S. House of Representative history, Walls was the first Republican member of Congress from Florida, serving from 1842–1905.

Again, a simple Google search and the POLITICO writers would have found this.

Ok, let’s give them a pass because Googling is difficult for some (more sarcasm), and Rep. Walls did serve over a hundred years ago.

But what about Rep. Allen West?

For the love of Dear Lord Baby Jesus, Rep. West has been a staple in American politics since he first ran for the House back in 2009. How could these their brown amigos not know about West?

He’s only been one of the biggest thorn in the sides of Democrats over the past several decades after being elected to Congress.

Wait, let’s go back to Googling. Again, by doing a simple Google search of this headline, a New York Times article about West pops up right below several entries about Rep. Walls.

You really can’t make this up.

I wonder who these folks will name as being the first Republican member of Congress, the Honorable Ponce De Leon from St. Augustine?

POLITICO, Ponce De Leon was the guy from Espana who discovered Florida.

UPDATE: BREAKING NEWS!!

POLITICO changes their bogus headline. They must have read our post:
