President Joe Biden (D) received some criticism last month after announcing that he would continue using immigration policies that were enforced under the Trump Administration. This included reopening a migrant detention facility in Texas.
High-profile opponents of the so-called "concentration camps" like New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D) expressed her disapproval on Twitter, saying that “this is not okay, never has been okay, never will be okay – no matter the administration or party.” As well, the ACLU directed a letter, calling the decision “a step backward.”
However, as Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R) warns of the incoming concerns regarding immigration, he’s blaming President Biden for escalating the concerns while expressing that the eventual "catastrophe" requires an immediate response.
On Twitter, Rubio stated that “the situation on the U.S.-Mexico border is deteriorating at an alarming rate,” adding that “this is a crisis which has the potential to escalate into a humanitarian catastrophe.”
Last week, the Florida lawmaker levied blame at President Biden, arguing that his immigration plan fails the threat posed by human traffickers and the rest of the illicit drug-fueled criminal element and that is pouring into the country
Rubio explained that "There are traffickers that go out and recruit people and say, ‘Hey, I can get you into America.’" In turn, this has "created an incentive for children to be sent towards the border as a passport.”
