Brandes On Legalized Recreational Marijuana Use in FL: 'It's Gonna Happen'

Share

Across the country, state legislatures have made leaps and bounds to change their statutes on marijuana, medicinal and recreational.  Florida could quite possibly join states among the ranks of Colorado and California to fully legalize recreational marijuana with SB 710 (Availability of Marijuana for Adult Use).

The legislation, drafted by State Senator Jeff Brandes (R-24), would require legal consumers of marijuana to be 21 years of age and,  "would revise the sales tax exemption for the sale of marijuana and marijuana delivery devices to apply only to purchases by qualified patients or caregivers."

Although the bill seems liberating in its title, the sale of the substance would only apply to 21-year-olds and over, "under certain circumstances."

The Bill also guarantees private property owners the right to uphold their own policy on marijuana and vape usage on their property, but cannot limit a tenant's right to possess the drug.

The Floridian reached out to Senator Brandes this morning when he told us that he simply believes full legalization, "Is gonna happen.  Whether it's on the ballot in 2022 or 2024, it's gonna happen."

If the bill passes, it is expected to take effect on the first day of 2022, months ahead of the crucial midterm elections in Florida.
