Deutch Singles Out Greene, But Refuses To Call Out Anti-Semites Omar and Tlaib

Share

House Democrats successfully voted to strip Rep. Marjorie Green (R) of her two committee assignments for espousing conspiracy theories and promoting violence before taking office, but before they voted, members took to the floor of the House of Representatives to make their case for their impending action.

One of the conspiracy theories that Rep. Greene was promoting was that the Parkland school shooting that left 17 innocent students and teachers dead, was a "false flag" staged event. She has since walked the remark back.

Rep, Ted Deutch (R), who represents the congressional district in which the school shooting occurred, stated in a tweet that "there are real-world consequences to this dangerous antisemitism, Islamophobia, racism, & conspiracy theories."

Rep. Deutch, along with Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D) and many other Democratic lawmakers, has been relentless in his efforts to have Greene punished, but Deutch's denouncement of Greene's past anti-Semitic remarks could be perceived as nothing more than hypocrisy because he hasn't singled out Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib for their past use of anti-Semitic comments.

“Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel," tweeted Rep. Omar.

This tweet, along with Rep. Omar's "all about the Benjamins" remark referencing the Jews and money stereotype.

While Omar has apologized for using anti-Semitic tropes, she didn't apologize for her statement against AIPAC, "reaffirms" what she considers a "problematic role of lobbyists."

Tlaib is a special case and has refused to apologize for her comparing Israel to Nazi Germany, among other conspiratorial claims.
