The U.S. Supreme Court has struck down emoluments lawsuits filed against former President Donald Trump over whether he profited off of his position as president when his Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C. accepted payments for hotel room rentals by both domestic and foreign officials.
The cases alleged that President Trump illegally profited by allowing individuals to pay for stays at his hotel.
The court has been sent down to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit "with instructions to dismiss the case as moot" because the president is no longer in office.
