Javier Manjarres
As Americans are watching the final votes being counted in the Georgia runoff election – pointing to a Republican defeat – lawmakers are also set to convene in order to accept or oppose the certification of the November 3rd presidential election. Commenting on what today means for Republicans, Javier Manjarres, the publisher of The Floridian, took part in an interview with NewsMax to discuss how Republicans are likely to respond.
Florida Democrats like State Rep. Michael Greico (D) have called the Republicans’ efforts to challenge or decertify the Electoral College vote as an act of “treason.” Manjarres disregarded the comments, pointing out that the real issue for the future of the GOP is “the Republicans in the House that will not be supporting this effort.” Although no GOP lawmakers from the Sunshine State have said that they will accept the certification, Texas lawmakers like Dan Crenshaw (R) and Chip Roy (R) have said that they will not oppose the certification. From what he’s heard, “this measure is not gonna pass in the House,” calling it “unfortunate” because many of those members are part of the Freedom Caucus.
However, Manjarres commented that this could prove to be disastrous in terms of the future of these lawmakers’ careers because “they will be primaried… Trump will go after them with all his wrath.”
In short, Manjarres referenced a recent interview conducted with former Florida Rep. Allen West (R) who said that, in this moment, the world will see "who the summer soldiers and sunshine patriots are."
