Yesterday marks the one year anniversary of the US drone attack that took the nefarious life of Qassem Soleimani. But so much has changed in the American political landscape since President Donald Trump's bold move to take out one of the deadliest terrorists in the world. With a new administration on the way, we must ask ourselves, "How will the Joe Biden (D) administration take on Iran?"
While Democrats have remained passive on the terror state, Republicans continue to have faith in the foreign policy of President Trump. Even one year later, Rep. Brian Mast (R) best characterized the killing of Soleimani as, "Necessary and positive." Mast cast Soleimani's death in a unique analogy: "I compare killing him to taking out a machine gun nest. It's risky and you may get hurt, but if you don't do it, that machine gun will start shooting at others..."
"Killing of Soleimani was necessary and positive," stated Rep. Mast. "He was an imminent threat, in the blood of Americans was already on his hands. I compare killing him to taking out a machine gun nest. It’s risky and you may get hurt, but if you don’t do it that machine gun will start shooting at others. And just because that machine gun is reloading and not firing at a moment that doesn’t mean it’s not an imminent threat."
Remember, Biden was Vice President during the US adoption of the Iran Nuclear Deal, the controversial foreign policy deal that was later scrapped by President Trump in 2018. While considering Democratic foreign policy, The Floridian asked Rep. Brian Mast about the future of the dead deal, and he thought that Biden would try to bring it back.
"Yes, I anticipate Democrats trying to resurrect the Iran Nuclear Deal," added Rep. Mast. "They are unapologetically Chamberlain like."
With all things considered, expect the US to lower its guard against Iran. President Trump has done nothing but sanction, attack, and cut ties with Iran. President-Elect Biden has already signalled his Iranian game plan, as Mast believes Biden will, "Clone Obama and move away from Israel..."
While those two realities may contrast greatly, only one benefits Western interests in the region. Consider President Trump's stance on Iran from Soleimani to the Nuclear deal, all moves greatly infuriated Iran, the same nation that fashions the phrase, "Death to America!"
The evidence only leads us to ask: Did we really pick the right guy to deal with the Iran problem?
