Rick Scott opposes mask mandate, any mandate on Americans

Florida Senator Rick Scott becomes the latest Floridian to say that he does not any mask mandate or anything on Americans as a result of the spreading COVID-19 pandemic.

In an interview with The Floridian, Sen. Scott said that the virus was “100%” the fault of the “Communist Party in China” for allowing the spread fo the virus and that American should be given “more information” about the virus so that people can make better “informed decisions” about what they should do about their health.

“I don't I don't believe that we ought to be mandating things,” said Sen. Scott. “I don't believe we ought to be a mask mandate.”

While Scott says that he doesn’t support the government mandating the use of masks, he does believe that everyone should be wearing masks and continuing to social distance, and if anyone testing positive for the virus, they need to practice “individual responsibility” and quarantine.

“Yeah, we will be wearing a mask, we are social distance, we have quarantine,” said Scott.

Scott’s ‘no mask mandate’ follows that of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis decision not to implement any further state shutdowns or mask mandates, a move that infuriated state and federally elected Democrats who questioned his leadership for doing so.

President-elect Joe Biden said that upon taking office, he would put in place a nationwide mask mandate, but quickly walked back his potential requirement after Americans expressed unprecedented dissatisfaction for any virus-related government mandate.

On the issue of voter integrity, Scott said that he would like to see national standards be used to help prevent the voter fraud that occurred during the 2020 presidential election.

“What I want them to do is just have national standards, require voter ID, I mean I can't imagine why we don't have you don't have to show an ID to be able to vote,” said Scott. “ So, basically keep everything the same, keep the states running and local municipalities running the elections, only install federal standards.”
