With 2020 coming to a close, Americans continue to face financial difficulties as a result of the spreading COVID-19 pandemic. Before the November 3rd elections, Republicans and Democrats were gridlocked when it came to agreeing on a COVID relief package for Americans.
In recent weeks, Republican and Democratic lawmakers have continued to aim attacks at each other, placing the blame on the other party for stalling relief that would help Americans during a difficult time.
Moreover, ahead of the November elections, President Trump (R) weighed in on the concern and asked House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D) to vote on a stand-alone COVID relief bill. However, lawmakers were still not able to reach an agreement, and the United States is now facing spiking COVID-19 cases across the country, and one of the states that have been most affected by the coronavirus is the sunshine state.
In response to lack of financial relief, Florida Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D), who was defeated by Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez (R) in November, slammed Republican leadership, placing the blame on Republicans for not helping Americans that are currently financially struggling.
The Florida lawmaker reminded that December 1st is here, and that “bills are due” and that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R) “is still holding up a stimulus bill that countless Americans desperately need.”
Mucarsel-Powell also questioned, “how much longer do our communities have to suffer because of DC Republicans’ partisan games??”
In Florida, the COVID-19 infection rate has skyrocketed with more than 100,000 daily cases being reported in under a month’s time.
This spike in infections has generated divisive conversations within lawmakers and Americans as to whether or not there should be a federal mandate on wearing masks and whether or not there should be another national lockdown.
However, there is one topic that Americans and lawmakers agree on, which is that Americans need relief, but the conversation continues as to when that relief will be provided. It doesn't look promising.
